Bethany Kay is a songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist from Birmingham.
She weaves catchy, distinctive melodies in the forgotten corners where musical genres and textures meet. She sings with an honest voice, drawing on her environment to create music that transports listeners to new landscapes.
Bethany plays original and traditional music on the folk circuit as a singer-songwriter and banjoist. She also writes, plays and sings with Birmingham avant-pop band The Nature Centre, playing multiple instruments including clarinet, saxophone, banjo and sampler. They gig regularly and have released two EPs, several singles and their first album, Never Not.
Bethany is also Musical Director of Cloud Cuckoo Land, composing music for their children’s theatre productions (including Royal Shakespeare Company commission Ariel On The Cliff). Her other freelance composing includes Follow The Bookworm for The Play House, and she facilitates composition for Natalie Mason’s Multicultural Music Making project with Friction Arts in Ladywood and Walsall.
